Woman Claims Kanye West Told Her to Steal Car with Child Inside
A woman arrested for car theft claimed that rapper Kanye West “telegraphically” told her to steal a car, which had a child inside.
According to an affidavit, police were called to North Main Street on Friday morning after receiving reports of a woman attempting to enter random vehicles parked outside businesses. The suspect, identified as Ricki Smith from Louisville, Kentucky, tried to get into a woman’s car as she was entering a store.
The victim, who was dropping her child off at daycare and stopped at the store, saw the 28-year-old suspect enter her car. Acting quickly, the victim grabbed Smith by the hair and pulled her out of the vehicle, according to the police.
Smith told investigators that she was traveling from Louisville to Evansville when her car broke down on Interstate 64, leading her to hitchhike the rest of the way. When questioned by police about her actions, Smith claimed that Kanye West had “telegraphically” instructed her to steal the car.
Smith was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail. Authorities later discovered that Smith had crashed her vehicle into trees off I-64, which is why she abandoned it. According to jail records, Smith is facing charges of kidnapping and auto theft.
