Teacher Accused of Shocking Child Abuse and Murder in Adopted Baby Case
A shocking case has emerged as a teacher faces serious charges, including the alleged murder and abuse of a 13-month-old baby he was in the process of adopting.
Jamie Varley, 36, appeared in court accused of multiple horrific offenses involving young Preston Davey. The charges include murder, manslaughter, assault by penetration, child cruelty, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and numerous counts related to indecent images of a child.
Varley, who was adopting Preston with his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, 31, appeared for a brief hearing at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court. Both men were remanded in custody and will face further proceedings at Preston Crown Court.
Authorities were alerted after Preston was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital on July 27, 2023, unresponsive. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Varley had been suspended from his teaching role at South Shore Academy following his arrest.
The heart-breaking case has sparked widespread outrage, and the investigation continues. Both men lived in Grimsargh, near Preston, and the alleged crimes took place between March and July 2023.
The next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, June 16.
