“These terrorist acts will not break Syria’s determination for unity and peace,” the Ministry of Interior said, confirming that an investigation is underway.
The Syrian Health Ministry warned the death toll may rise as rescue teams continue to search the rubble for more victims.
The attack, which officials labeled a terrorist bombing, has been claimed by ISIL. Authorities say Islamic State fighters remain active in some regions and may be behind the bloodshed.
“This cowardly attack targets the civic values that unite us. We will not back down,” declared Information Minister Hamza al-Mostafa, vowing to protect all citizens from terror groups.
The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir O. Pedersen, also condemned the violence, calling it a “heinous crime” and urging swift justice.
As Syria grapples with renewed threats to its fragile peace, the attack has sparked global concern over the safety of religious minorities and vulnerable communities in the region.
