Shocking Florida Man Caught on Viral Video Brutally Stabbing Shark in Head Arrested for Revenge Attack
A Florida man has been arrested for animal cruelty after a viral video showed him repeatedly stabbing a shark in the head an act he claimed was “revenge” for the shark breaking his fishing rod.
Zane Garrett, 26, was caught on camera attacking a bull shark near a wreck off the coast of Key West, Florida, on May 22. The video, originally posted to Snapchat with the caption “Bud broke my rod,” quickly went viral and triggered public outrage and a criminal investigation.
Garrett, who falsely claimed to be a licensed boat captain, admitted to the stabbing and told authorities he was “frustrated” because the shark had stolen his catch and became a “nuisance.”
“It takes a lot more to kill a shark than stabbing it in the head,” he told investigators.
I’ve done a lot more killing. I’ve shot sharks and stabbed them before.”
Authorities slammed the attack as “egregious” and unnecessary cruelty, confirming that Garrett is now facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond at Monroe County jail. His court arraignment is set for June 26.
