Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested at U.S. Airport Over Alleged Altercation With Boyfriend
Olympic gold sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has found herself in the headlines again this time for a reported domestic dispute at a U.S. airport involving her boyfriend and fellow athlete, Christian Coleman.
The 25-year-old track star was arrested on Sunday, July 28, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after an alleged altercation at a TSA checkpoint. Reports say airport security footage appeared to show Richardson repeatedly pushing Coleman as he attempted to walk away. She was taken into custody on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
Though Coleman reportedly refused to press charges, Richardson was still detained and held for nearly 19 hours at the SCORE South Correctional Facility in Des Moines, Washington. She was released on Monday.
The incident occurred just as both sprinters are competing in the 2025 U.S. Track and Field Championships. Richardson had recently advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 100-meter race after clocking a time of 11.07 seconds. As the defending national champion, she already holds a secured spot in the upcoming World Championships.
Richardson and Coleman have been in a relationship for over two years but only went public earlier in 2025. This isn’t the first time Richardson has faced public controversy. In 2023, she was removed from an American Airlines flight after a disagreement with a flight attendant. At the time, she accused the airline of unfair treatment for asking her to end a phone call before takeoff.
So far, Richardson has not released an official statement about the recent incident.
