Rapper Soulja Boy Arrested in Los Angeles After Gun Found During Traffic Stop
Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday morning in Los Angeles after police allegedly found a firearm during a traffic stop.
According to reports from law enforcement, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when officers pulled over a vehicle in which the rapper born DeAndre Cortez Way was riding as a passenger.
During the stop, officers reportedly spotted a gun inside the vehicle. Soulja Boy was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities have yet to confirm what led to the initial traffic stop or release further details about the weapon. It’s also unclear if anyone else in the car was detained or charged.
Just hours before his arrest, Soulja Boy had been celebrating his birthday and interacting with fans outside his Melrose Avenue store in Los Angeles. He even appeared in videos posted online from a popular nightclub, Poppy, where the birthday festivities were held Saturday night.
Local news outlet NBC Los Angeles was first to break the story. As of now, representatives for Soulja Boy have not issued any public statement regarding the arrest.
The rapper has had multiple legal issues in the past, including previous cases involving weapons. This latest arrest could bring additional legal challenges if charges are formally filed.
