Queen Margrethe Cancels Upcoming Event at Aarhus University
The Queen was scheduled to attend an event at Aarhus University on Friday but has since cancelled her appearance due to the accident.
Health Concerns and Recent Surgery
Margrethe, known for her long reign and love of dachshunds, recently underwent back surgery in February 2023. The monarch had previously cited health issues as a major factor in her decision to abdicate in January this year, after ruling Denmark for 52 years.
Abdication and Legacy
In her New Year’s Eve speech last year, Queen Margrethe surprised the nation with the announcement of her abdication. Just two weeks later, she officially stepped down during a Council of State meeting, handing over the throne to her son, Frederik, who is now King of Denmark.
Despite stepping down, Margrethe retains the title of Queen and can still serve as regent in the absence of King Frederik, Queen Mary, or Crown Prince Christian. The Queen was last seen on Monday at the Rungstedlund Prize 2024 event at the Karen Blixen Museum.
