New York Police Address Explosive Rumor Ahead of Trump Rally
On Wednesday, September 18, police in New York debunked rumors circulating on social media that explosives were discovered in a car near the site of a scheduled rally for former President Donald Trump.
A spokesperson from the Nassau County Police Department told Anadolu, “There’s no credibility to that,” dismissing the claims as false.
Rally Details and Recent Security Concerns
Trump is expected to speak at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, at 7 p.m. local time (2300 GMT). This event comes just three days after a second assassination attempt was made against the former president at his Florida golf course.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, 58, was a former Trump supporter who has since become a critic. He has been charged with firearms offenses and is anticipated to face additional charges.
Details of the Florida Incident
The Secret Service intervened at the golf course on Sunday after an agent spotted the barrel of an AK-47-style assault rifle from 400-500 yards away. The gunman, who had dropped his rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro video camera, fled in a black SUV.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw reported that a witness captured photos of the suspect’s car and license plate, leading to Routh’s arrest on a nearby highway.
This incident follows a previous assassination attempt on July 13, when a 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, wounded Trump during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
