Police Confirm Murder-Suicide of Missing Georgia Firefighters, Revealing Contents of Suicide Note
The deaths of Georgia firefighters Raegan Anderson and her ex-boyfriend Chandler Kuhbander have been confirmed as a murder-suicide, following an investigation by Georgia officials. The pair, both 24 years old, were reported missing after Kuhbander went on a date with another woman. Days later, they were found deceased in Anderson’s vehicle.
An autopsy revealed that Anderson fatally shot Kuhbander before turning the gun on herself. The couple was discovered on June 30 in Anderson’s vehicle, which was located on private property in Cocke County, Tennessee, over 300 miles from where they had gone missing. Kuhbander was found in the passenger seat, with Anderson positioned on top of him, according to the autopsy report obtained by Newsweek.
Toxicology reports indicated no presence of substances in either individual. Both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds to the head, which investigators determined were inflicted by Anderson. The vehicle contained their identification and a suicide note written by Anderson, dated June 25.
The note, addressed to those who might find them, expressed Anderson’s remorse: “I’m sorry to whoever found us. I am sorry to everyone I hurt.” Anderson also left contact information for her grandmother, asking that she be informed of her love and regret, and expressing a wish for her grandmother to inherit everything.
Anderson and Kuhbander had been in a relationship for seven years before breaking up in 2023. Both were employed by Liberty County Fire Services in Hinesville. Investigators believe Anderson, described in the autopsy as “unstable,” kidnapped Kuhbander on June 24.
In response to the tragic discovery, Liberty County Fire Services issued a statement expressing deep sadness, noting that both individuals were “extremely dedicated employees” who were committed to serving and protecting the community.
The Hinesville Police Department first issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for the missing pair on June 26, sharing their photos and an image of Anderson’s vehicle. As the search for the two intensified, details about their relationship and Anderson’s actions in the days before their disappearance began to surface.
According to WJCL, Anderson had been arrested on June 22 after confronting Kuhbander at an Olive Garden restaurant, where he was on a date with another woman. Anderson allegedly verbally assaulted Kuhbander’s date, causing her to leave. Following the incident, Anderson reportedly damaged Kuhbander’s car by keying it, breaking the gas cap, and tearing off the rear windshield wiper. She was charged with second-degree property damage and disorderly conduct. Anderson later claimed that Kuhbander had said “hurtful” things to her, which led to her actions.
Kuhbander’s mother reported that she last spoke to her son on the morning of June 24, during which he mentioned that Anderson was repeatedly calling him and threatening suicide. His mother noted that this was not the first time Anderson had made such threats.
Later that day, Kuhbander visited Crunch Fitness, with surveillance footage showing him entering and leaving the Oglethorpe Mall. His mother, who viewed the security video, stated that Anderson’s Ford Focus was seen driving through the mall’s parking lot around the same time. It appears Kuhbander never returned to his own vehicle.
Police conducted a welfare check at Anderson’s home during their investigation. Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard explained that officers entered the residence after finding the door open and discovered a note that raised concerns about Anderson’s wellbeing. The contents of this note have not been made public.
