The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs in an overnight raid across multiple locations in Edo State ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
Weapons Recovered During the Operation
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, September 21, the police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols and one locally made gun from the suspects. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to prevent political violence in the state during the election period.
Details of the Arrest
“The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant breakthrough in curbing electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs,” Adejobi said. The suspects, identified as Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, were apprehended after a tip-off.
Obanor, believed to be the leader of an armed group, was arrested in Oredo Ward 4 at around 9 pm, while Tajudeen was arrested in Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election.
Police Commitment to Peaceful Elections
“These arrests are a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process,” Adejobi added. The police and other security agencies have vowed not to tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the Edo State election.
