Police Arrest Man with Eight Human Skulls in Ondo
Law enforcement officers from the Ondo state command have detained a 31-year-old individual, Yusuf Adenoyin, who was discovered with eight human skulls in Isua Akoko, located in the Akoko South-East local government area of the state.
Adenoyin admitted to the offense, explaining that he sought to raise N2 million using the eight human skulls to cover the medical expenses for his ailing mother, who is hospitalized.
During a press briefing at the State Police headquarters on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the suspect, who was formerly involved in the palm oil trade, revealed that he turned to the trafficking of human skulls after realizing it was more profitable than his previous business.
The suspect, originally from Kogi State, cited economic hardship and his desperation to save his mother as reasons for his involvement. He explained that an herbalist he connected with on social media introduced him to the trade in human skulls.
Adenoyin, who was en route to Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, with the skulls, indicated that his supplier is currently evading capture.
He stated that he purchases the skulls from an individual who procures them from graveyards, subsequently distributing them to buyers.
The suspect detailed that he acquires each skull for N20,000 and sells them in Osun State for prices ranging from N30,000 to N35,000.
He also mentioned that the skulls found in his possession by the authorities were dry, with some containing a substance he claimed to be a dog’s heart.
Addressing the media about the arrest, the state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipupo, reported that Adenoyin was apprehended on Monday by officers from the Police Safer Highway patrol at the Isua/Epinmi checkpoint.
The Commissioner explained that Adenoyin was travelling in a commercial vehicle that was stopped at a checkpoint. Upon the vehicle being flagged down, the suspect attempted to flee but was pursued and captured by the officers.
The police discovered eight dry human skulls wrapped in a polythene bag and hidden in a sack filled with garri during a search of his belongings.
Adenoyin confessed that this was the third batch of skulls he was delivering to his customers.
The Police Commissioner assured the public that the suspect would be charged in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
