Obaseki announces a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in Edo State. The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has officially approved a raise in the minimum wage to N70,000 for civil servants in the state.
The government shared the news on their official X account, stating that the implementation of the new wage will commence on May 1, 2024.
The statement reads: “Gov Obaseki Increases Minimum Wage to N70,000 in Edo, Commissions Labour House, Names It After Comrade Adams Oshiomhole….”
During the commissioning of the Labour House, Governor Obaseki announced the wage increase, highlighting the significance of the building as one of the most impressive Labour Houses in Nigeria, constructed by his administration. It was named after Comrade Sen. Adams Aliu Oshiomhole, a prominent labor unionist from Edo State.
The new minimum wage will come into effect from May 1, 2024.
Previously, in May 2022, the governor had announced a minimum wage of N40,000 for state civil servants.
There are rumors circulating that President Bola Tinubu may announce a new minimum wage on May 1, coinciding with International Labour Day, with a possible backdated implementation to April.
