Nigerian swim coach earns admiration by swimming the full length of Third Mainland Bridge. Dare Akinrodoye, a Nigerian man known as Coach Dreh, accomplishes a remarkable feat by swimming the entire span of Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Coach Dreh undertook this challenge to raise awareness about suicide and depression, citing his own past struggles with depression and how swimming saved him from suicidal thoughts.
He chose the location because Third Mainland Bridge is often associated with public suicides in Lagos.
The event, held today, March 30th, in Lagos, drew a large crowd of spectators and had medical support on standby.
Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, attended to show government support.
Swimming continuously without interruption, Coach Dreh covered the bridge’s full 11.8-kilometer length in 2 hours and 33 minutes.
