NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau and Brother Killed Just Hours Before Sister’s Wedding in New Jersey.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother, Matthew, tragically lost their lives just hours before their sister Katie’s wedding. The wedding, which was scheduled for Friday at 1:45 PM in a New Jersey church, has been canceled in the wake of the devastating incident, as confirmed by a church official.
Katie Gaudreau and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, had rehearsed for the ceremony on Thursday night, unaware of the impending tragedy. Both Johnny and Matthew were set to play significant roles in the wedding, with Johnny’s children designated as the flower girl and ring bearer. Another of Johnny’s sisters was chosen as one of the maids of honor.
The fatal accident occurred at 8:19 PM on Thursday in Oldmans Township, where the Gaudreau brothers were riding bicycles. They were struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Sean Higgins, who police allege was intoxicated at the time. Both brothers died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Johnny Gaudreau, a key player for the Columbus Blue Jackets, was 31 years old. His brother Matthew was 29. Sean Higgins has been arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto.
As of now, there has been no confirmation on whether the wedding will be rescheduled. Our thoughts are with the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time.
RIP Johnny and Matthew.
