My Time at Manchester United Was a Failure — Former Man U Coach David Moyes Speak Out
Former Everton manager David Moyes has described his time at Manchester United as the greatest regret and failure of his managerial career.
Moyes left Everton to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as head coach in July 2013 after Ferguson retired. Despite a promising start with a Community Shield victory against Wigan Athletic, the season ended poorly.
Under Moyes, United had their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, finishing seventh with 57 points from 34 games, 13 points shy of a Champions League spot. He was sacked in April 2014.
In an interview on William Hill’s “Up Front with Simon Jordan” (via Mirror), Moyes said, “My time at Manchester United was a failure. If I have any regrets in my career, it’s taking one of the biggest jobs in world football and not being able to make it work. When I retire, that’ll always be my biggest regret.”
He discussed the challenges he faced after losing the Manchester United job and the unfair criticism he received. Moyes believed the setup at United was similar to his successful tenure at Everton, and he was cautious about changing Sir Alex Ferguson’s system.
Moyes also mentioned his transfer targets, including Cesc Fàbregas, who was available if he wasn’t in Barcelona’s starting lineup, and Gareth Bale, whom United pursued with a significant offer. Despite the efforts, Bale chose to join Real Madrid.
