Mother Mauled to Death by Pack of Dogs in Northern California
A Northern California woman, identified as 56-year-old Davina Corbin, was tragically mauled to death by a pack of dogs while walking on a local trail, police reported.
Corbin’s severely bitten body was discovered by a neighbor just before 2 a.m. last Thursday, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. The medical examiner determined that her cause of death was a domestic dog attack, as evidenced by the numerous bite marks and injuries covering her body. DNA found on her clothing matched that of domestic dogs.
The incident occurred on a trail near a home where 25 Great Danes were reportedly roaming freely. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and spent the entire day capturing the loose dogs, which were then placed in the custody of Butte County Animal Control. Investigators plan to compare the DNA of the dogs with the DNA found on Corbin’s body to determine which animals were involved in the attack.
Neighbors described Corbin’s death as a preventable tragedy. Max Heckler, a local resident, shared that he and others had previously reported the dogs to Butte County Animal Control multiple times but felt their concerns were ignored.
“Nothing was done until now,” Heckler told KCRA, a local news station. “We knew something like this would happen—it’s a tragedy that should never have occurred.”
Heckler also recalled a close encounter with the same dogs, explaining, “The Great Danes came at me across the road. I had to jump in my car to escape.”
He expressed frustration with animal control, saying, “They bear responsibility for this death just as much as the dogs. This could have been prevented. That lady should have never died.”
