Mom, Wake Up Violet Affleck Blasts Jennifer Garner for Ignoring Climate Crisis During L.A. Wildfires
Violet Affleck, daughter of actress Jennifer Garner and actor Ben Affleck, revealed she had intense arguments with her mom while they were staying in a hotel during the Los Angeles wildfires in January.
In a paper published in Yale’s Global Health Review, Violet shared how she and her mom clashed over the disaster. She said they spent the month “arguing in a hotel room” while her mom was shocked at the damage in their neighborhood. But Violet, a Gen Z climate activist, wasn’t surprised she expected the fires to happen.
She wrote that adults, including her mom, acted like the wildfires were just bad luck, instead of seeing them as a clear result of climate change. She also called out her little brother, Samuel, for not understanding global warming and sarcastically said, “Hopefully, most of us understand the climate crisis better than my little brother.”
Violet criticized rich countries for causing climate change through constant overconsumption and said people can’t keep acting like things will go back to normal because climate disasters are only getting worse.
She ended her essay by urging people to take real action and change their behavior to help stop global warming before more disasters strike.
