Johnny Gaudreau’s Widow Shares Heartbreaking Message After NHL Star and Brother Killed in Tragic Accident
Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, has shared her first public messages following the devastating loss of her husband, who was tragically killed alongside his brother Matthew by a suspected drunk driver on Thursday.
As previously reported by TMZ, Johnny and Matthew were fatally struck while riding their bikes. The suspect involved in the incident has since been charged with their deaths.
On Saturday, Meredith took to social media to post two heart-wrenching tributes to her late husband, expressing the depth of her grief and the love she had for him.
“Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours. I love you so, so much,” she wrote, accompanied by several photos of the couple during happier times.
“You were perfect. Some days it felt too good to be true. I love every single thing about you. You are my forever, and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever.”
In another post, Meredith described Johnny as an incredible father and the “best partner” she could have asked for.
The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Matthew’s wife is expecting their first child in just a few months. Additionally, the Gaudreau family’s sorrow is deepened as the brothers’ sister was scheduled to get married on Friday, a ceremony that has now been postponed.
Authorities reported that the brothers were hit from behind by a suspected drunk driver at around 8:20 PM on Thursday. The suspect, 43-year-old Sean Higgins, has been arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto.
It’s worth noting that Higgins had a previous DWI charge in 2005 in North Carolina, but according to WRAL, that case was dismissed when the arresting officer failed to appear in court.
Johnny Gaudreau was 31 years old, and his brother Matthew was 29.
