History Made as Nigerian, Captain Kelechi Ndukwe, Becomes First to Command a US Navy Warship
Kelechi Ndukwe, a Nigerian officer in the US Navy, has been promoted from Commander to Captain, making history as the first Nigerian to command a US Navy warship.
The news was shared by Victor Agunbiade, a fellow US Naval Officer, on X (formerly Twitter), where he congratulated Ndukwe on his remarkable achievement.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest US Navy Captain, Kelechi Ndukwe. The first Nigerian to command a US Navy Warship! Congratulations on your promotion, Captain! Well deserved!!!” Agunbiade wrote. He added, “At the promotion ceremony of US Navy Captain Kelechi Ndukwe—a true trailblazer!”
