Halle Berry Seeks Sole Legal Custody of Son, Claims Ex Has Turned Child Against Her
Halle Berry has reached a breaking point in her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. The actress now seeks sole legal custody of their 10-year-old son, Maceo, citing the negative impact of the conflict on his well-being.
In newly obtained legal documents, Halle accuses Olivier of displaying “turbulent and detrimental behavior” that has severely affected Maceo. She details that the child is struggling with significant behavioral and learning issues, which Olivier has reportedly ignored.
Halle claims that Olivier prioritizes soccer over school, refusing to provide their son with a tutor because it would interfere with his practice schedule. She says that after extended time with Olivier, Maceo often returns to her home angry and combative. According to Halle, Olivier shares their conflicts with Maceo, offering his perspective in a way that has taken a toll on the child.
Acknowledging that she is not perfect, Halle insists she has been an exemplary parent, while accusing Olivier of failing in his role. The couple currently shares joint physical and legal custody, but Halle is now asking the court for sole legal custody, believing it is the only way to address Maceo’s needs effectively. She wants to take control of decisions related to his education and therapy.
This custody dispute has been ongoing for years, following their separation in 2015 after two years of marriage. Although their divorce was finalized just last August, their disagreements have mainly revolved around parenting.
Halle says she has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars attempting to resolve their differences privately but now feels she has no choice but to take the matter to court, presenting her case before a family law judge.
