Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe Bans Crypto Mining by Staff During Working Hours
Gombe Hospital Management Enforces Ban on Crypto Mining at Work
The Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH) has officially barred its employees from engaging in cryptocurrency mining while on duty. The hospital management noted that this rising trend was distracting workers from fulfilling their primary responsibility of attending to patients.
Crypto Mining Banned to Prioritize Patient Care
In an internal circular, the hospital emphasized that while staff are permitted to engage in personal activities during off-hours, crypto mining during working hours will not be tolerated. Adamu Usman Tela, Deputy Director of Administration at the hospital, stated on Thursday, September 19, that the decision was proactive, aiming to maintain focus on public health as the hospital’s top priority.
Monitoring Compliance with the New Directive
The hospital has deployed SERVICOM, ACTU, and security officers to monitor staff compliance with the new rule. The internal circular stressed the importance of ensuring that patient care is not compromised by non-work-related activities.
In recent years, many Nigerians have turned to cryptocurrency mining, spending hours on their phones in pursuit of digital currency. However, the hospital management remains firm in its stance that patient care must always come first.
