Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, died from multiple injuries following a fall from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to preliminary autopsy results. The autopsy revealed that the 31-year-old sustained injuries that caused internal and external haemorrhaging, leading to his tragic death.
Fall from Hotel Balcony
Payne jumped into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel on October 16, landing near the hotel’s pool and outdoor dining area. Emergency responders confirmed Payne was already deceased upon their arrival due to the severity of his injuries, including a fractured skull.
Alberto Crescenti, director of the emergency medical response service SAME, explained:
“He had a fracture in the base of his skull and other extremely serious injuries. Unfortunately, his injuries were incompatible with life.”
Autopsy Findings and Further Investigation
The post-mortem was conducted at a morgue in Viamonte Street, about 15 minutes from the Casa Sur Hotel. Forensic pathologists Santiago Maffia Bizzozero and Victor Roberto Cohen confirmed that Payne suffered from severe trauma resulting in fatal internal bleeding.
Additional tests are underway to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, as these substances may have contributed to the singer’s death.
Circumstances Surrounding the Incident
The hotel room where Payne was staying, along with its balcony, was thoroughly examined by forensic teams. Police erected a red tent at the spot where Payne’s body was found. The courtyard is adjacent to the hotel’s Sacro restaurant, though no diners were present at the time as the venue was between lunch and dinner service.
Recent Personal Struggles
Payne arrived in Argentina earlier in October with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, attending his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert. Cassidy left two days before the incident, but Payne stayed behind. Around the same time, his ex-fiancée Maya Henry reportedly sent Payne a cease-and-desist letter, accusing him of contacting her repeatedly.
Liam Payne’s Legacy
Payne rose to fame at the age of 16 after forming One Direction on The X Factor in 2010 alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles. His death has sent shockwaves through the music industry, with fans mourning the loss of a star whose life ended too soon.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Payne’s fall continues, as authorities work to uncover what led to the tragic event.
