Football Match Postponed After Transgender Coach Signs 34-Year-Old Transgender Goalkeeper
Sutton United‘s away match against Ebbsfleet in the London and South East Regional Women’s League was postponed following controversy surrounding the signing of a transgender goalkeeper.
The game, originally scheduled for a 2 PM kick-off, was called off after Sutton informed their opponents via email at 11:12 AM that they were unable to field a team.
The postponement comes just a week after Sutton United’s manager, Lucy Clark—the first transgender manager in the top five tiers of women’s football in England—signed 34-year-old transgender goalkeeper Blair Hamilton.
Hamilton, who previously played for the University of Aberdeen’s men’s football team while transitioning, was later encouraged to join the women’s side. She made her debut for Sutton on August 25, helping the team secure a 6-0 victory over Haywards Heath Town.
