Female Migrant Feared Dead After Being ‘Deliberately Thrown into the Channel’ from Small Boat in France
A female migrant is feared dead after reportedly being deliberately thrown into the Channel during an attempted crossing from France.
According to Mail Online, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, August 27, when the woman was allegedly thrown into the water from a crowded small boat. Despite a large-scale search and rescue operation launched by French emergency services, there has been no sign of her 48 hours later, leading authorities to fear that she has drowned.
Local media reports suggest the incident took place near the Clipon jetty in Loon-Plage, northern France, approximately 30 miles east of Calais.
A police spokesperson stated that when officers arrived at the scene, the remaining migrants were uncooperative with the investigation. “The authorities do not know if she was able to return to the jetty by her own means or if she drowned,” the spokesperson said, adding that investigators are leaning toward the possibility that she drowned.
French border police have initiated a formal investigation and are urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
