Fatal Shooting in Brussels Leaves Two Dead, Two Injured Amid Drug Trafficking Concerns
Two people have been killed and two others seriously injured in a shooting incident in Brussels, near the Gare de Midi train station. The area, known for drug trafficking, was the scene of the violence. The shooting occurred between 1:00 and 2:00 am on Thursday, June 27, near a cafe in the Saint Gilles district. Police reported that the suspect or suspects fled the scene. Three people in total were wounded, with two in critical condition and one stable, according to local authorities. Brussels authorities had earlier identified Saint Gilles as one of the city’s drug hotspots. Police have not yet established a connection between the shooting and the illegal drug trade in the city.
Judicial officials were expected to provide further information later on Thursday. Belgium has recently experienced an increase in armed violence related to disputes between drug trafficking groups, with incidents including shootings in Brussels and Antwerp, where the port serves as a major entry point for cocaine from Latin America into Europe.
