Elon Musk Apologizes to Donald Trump After Private Phone Call: “I Went Too Far”
Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has publicly apologized to Donald Trump just hours after holding a private phone conversation with the former president, marking a potential thaw in their recent political feud.
Behind-the-Scenes Call Before Public Apology
According to White House sources confirmed by Reuters, the unexpected phone call took place on June 10. This was the first direct communication between the two since Musk unleashed a series of fiery posts targeting Trump the week prior.
By 3:04 a.m. on June 11, Musk had taken to X (formerly Twitter) to post a surprising apology:
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
Musk did not mention which specific comments he was referring to, but the apology came after he posted — and later deleted controversial accusations. Among them: an unverified claim tying Trump to classified Epstein-related documents and vocal support for Trump’s impeachment.
Political Pressure to Reconcile
Reports from Axios and the Wall Street Journal say the apology may have been encouraged by Vice President JD Vance and Trump’s Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who reportedly contacted Musk on June 6 urging him to end the feud.
The outreach seems to have worked.
Musk, who recently stepped down from his White House post as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, had once been a key player in Trump’s second-term reforms. Their relationship, however, became strained shortly after Musk’s departure.
Despite past clashes, Musk now appears to be shifting his stance on several key issues. He’s shown support for Trump’s National Guard deployment in response to Los Angeles ICE protest chaos — and has toned down his harsh words about Trump’s controversial economic policies, which he once slammed as a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump Responds: “It Is What It Is”
Trump himself addressed the situation in a podcast released on June 11, responding to Musk’s apology with measured words:
“I was disappointed in him. But it is what it is. Things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything.
Whether the apology marks the start of a full reconciliation or just a pause in the public drama remains to be seen but for now, tensions seem to be cooling between two of the most influential figures in American politics and business.
