Coco Gauff Makes History Wins French Open, First American Woman to Do It in 10 Years (Video)
Coco Gauff just made history in Paris
The 21-year-old tennis star defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling French Open final on Saturday, June 7 winning 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to claim her first French Open title and her second career Grand Slam.
It was a rematch of the 2023 U.S. Open final, and once again, Gauff came out on top this time on the red clay of Roland Garros. After losing a close first set, she bounced back with power, confidence, and incredible focus.
With this win, Gauff becomes the first American woman in a decade to win the French Open — a major milestone and a proud moment for U.S. tennis.
Fans also saw this victory as sweet revenge for Gauff, who lost the 2022 French Open final to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. This time, she didn’t let history repeat itself.
