Bodycam Footage Captures Arrest of Florida Mother Accused of Leaving Son Alone for Plastic Surgery
Newly-released bodycam footage reveals the arrest of a Florida woman accused of leaving her 3-year-old son alone at a vacation rental while she underwent plastic surgery. The incident occurred in Doral in June after neighbors reported a child wandering alone around the apartment complex.
According to an arrest report, the boy’s mother was seen leaving the Airbnb at 10:12 a.m., with the child exiting the unit around 1:13 p.m. By 4 p.m., he was found sleeping on a neighbor’s doorstep, prompting a police response. Investigators determined the boy had been alone for approximately six hours.
Bodycam footage shows officers questioning the child about his name, his home, and his parents. They then canvassed the complex, asking neighbors if anyone was missing a child.
The case drew comparisons to another incident involving Kristel Candelario, whose daughter died while she was on vacation, leading to a life sentence for murder.
The mother, identified as Renteria, was later located at a nearby surgery center, where she was arrested with her head still wrapped from the procedure. She claimed to have asked a friend to watch her son, but the friend denied any responsibility.
Renteria faces charges of child neglect. During her bond hearing in June, the judge expressed concern about her ability to provide proper supervision, noting that the Florida Department of Children and Families would handle custody matters. Renteria was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled for trial on December 2.
