Billionaire David Geffen Files for Divorce from 32-Year-Old Husband No Prenup, Huge Risk
Billionaire mogul David Geffen is ending his marriage and he’s doing it without a prenup in place.
The 82-year-old entertainment titan has filed for divorce from his 32-year-old husband, David Armstrong better known in some circles as Donovan Michaels. The couple had been married for just under two years.
According to court documents, Geffen cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Interestingly, despite Geffen’s reported $8.7 billion net worth, there was no prenuptial agreement in place a rare move in high-profile marriages.
Geffen is represented by renowned divorce attorney Laura Wasser, often dubbed “Hollywood’s Disso Queen.”
But before you assume Armstrong is walking away with a fortune, California law may limit his payout. Most of Geffen’s wealth is tied up in stocks and equities, which are considered separate property. Even dividends earned from those are protected — meaning Armstrong may not receive a major financial windfall.
What he will get, however, is spousal support for one year, as California typically awards support for half the length of short-term marriages.
Geffen also agreed to cover his estranged husband’s attorney’s fees, though the total amount of support has not been disclosed.
The split comes after nearly two years of marriage, marking another high-profile breakup in the world of the ultra-rich — and a reminder of what’s at stake when love and wealth collide.
