French President Emmanuel Macron has broken his silence after a viral video showed his wife Brigitte Macron appearing to shove him in the face moments after they landed in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The clip which sent social media into a frenzy shows Macron stepping out of the aircraft, only to be met with a sudden hand to the face from someone wearing red, widely believed to be Brigitte.

Though clearly surprised, Macron quickly recovered and smiled for the press, brushing off the awkward moment.

Addressing the buzz on Monday in Hanoi, Macron admitted the video was real but slammed the dramatic interpretations.

“There’s a video of me teasing my wife, and suddenly it becomes a geo-political crisis,” he said with a hint of sarcasm. “People are creating wild theories based on nothing.”
