Why Did Cristiano Ronaldo Party on a Yacht Instead of Attending Diogo Jota’s Funeral
Cristiano Ronaldo is under fire for missing the emotional funeral of his national teammate Diogo Jota while shocking photos surfaced of him relaxing on a luxury yacht in Mallorca at the exact same time.
Jota, 28, and his brother André Silva were killed in a horrific Lamborghini crash just days after Jota’s wedding. The funeral, held in Gondomar, Portugal, drew crowds of devastated fans and football stars including Bernardo Silva and Diogo Dalot but Ronaldo, the team captain, was nowhere to be seen.
Instead, he was reportedly cruising the Mediterranean on his £5.5 million Azimut Grande yacht, spotted enjoying himself at elite resorts while tributes poured in from teammates.
Now the question on everyone’s lips is: Why didn’t Ronaldo show up? Was it personal? Was it intentional? Or was he avoiding the spotlight?
Portuguese journalists have called his absence “disrespectful” and “inexplicable,” with one saying, “As captain, his presence was expected. Silence won’t fix this.”
Ronaldo did share a touching Instagram post expressing disbelief and sadness when the news broke but many feel a caption isn’t enough from someone seen as the soul of the team.
The two brothers were headed to Santander by road so Jota recovering from lung surgery could take a ferry back to Liverpool. They never made it.
As Portugal continues to mourn, fans are still waiting for Cristiano’s side of the story.
Do you think Ronaldo should have attended? Or did he have a valid reason to stay away?
