22-Year-Old Woman Dies in Boyfriend’s House in Imo, Parents Seek Justice
The parents of Ginika Judith Okoro, a 22-year-old nurse, are urging the Nigeria Police and state government to uncover the cause of their daughter’s unexplained death.
Ginika passed away at the residence of her boyfriend, Charles Ndukwu, in Ezeogba, Awaka, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
Mrs. Caroline Nneji, the late nurse’s mother, spoke to Punch, stating that the incident occurred on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
“My only daughter died last Sunday when she visited a young man named Charles. My only daughter, who was 22 years old, was raised by us. She ran a chemist shop where she treated patients and, as a nurse, sometimes visited patients’ houses for treatment. This fateful Sunday, she visited a young man and died in his house,” she recounted.
“My only eye is gone. What sin did I commit that cannot be forgiven?” she lamented.
Regarding how she learned of her daughter’s death, she said, “Around 9 pm on Sunday, the young man named Charles Ndukwu came to our house and told us that our daughter was unconscious and he took her to the hospital where the doctor confirmed her dead.”
The nurse’s stepfather, Mr. Nneji, explained that the deceased became unconscious after consuming pepper soup bought by her boyfriend.
“The suspect, Charles Ndukwu, told us that he bought pepper soup for our daughter, but she became unconscious after eating it, and he rushed her to Edochie Clinic, Awaka in Owerri North, where she was confirmed dead by the presiding doctor,” he explained.
Ndukwu has been arrested and is being held by the police for investigation.
The grieving parents are calling on the police and state government to thoroughly investigate the matter to uncover the truth behind their daughter’s mysterious death and ensure justice is served.
“All we seek from the police and the state government is a proper investigation to uncover the facts behind our daughter’s mysterious death. It is only the truth that we are seeking, after all, our daughter cannot come back to life again,” they told the publication.
ASP Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
“The police are investigating the matter. The police assure the public and the family that they will do everything possible to uncover the cause of the young girl’s mysterious death,” he said.
