22 Israeli Spies Caught by Iran Police
Iranian authorities have arrested 22 people accused of having links to Israeli intelligence services, according to a statement from police in Qom province reported by state-affiliated Fars News Agency on Saturday, June 21.
The arrests, which reportedly occurred between June 13 and June 22, are part of an ongoing crackdown on individuals suspected of collaborating with foreign spy networks.
“Twenty-two people were identified and arrested on charges of being linked to the Zionist regime’s spy services, disturbing public opinion, and supporting the criminal regime,” Fars quoted the head of police intelligence in Qom province as saying.
This latest development follows earlier reports:
On June 19, Iranian police announced the arrest of 24 individuals for alleged espionage and efforts to damage the country’s image, according to Tasnim News Agency.
On June 20, Tasnim reported the arrest of a European national on spying charges, though no details were provided about the person’s identity or the timing of the arrest.
Iran routinely announces the capture of individuals it claims are working with Israeli or Western intelligence. In recent weeks, several people convicted of espionage have been executed, reflecting a severe stance on suspected foreign interference.
Rights group Iran Human Rights, based in Norway, said at least 223 people have been detained across the country on suspicion of ties to Israel, noting that the actual number is likely higher due to limited transparency.
The arrests come as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, with both countries accusing one another of espionage, cyberattacks, and covert operations. Iranian officials have ramped up internal security measures amid rising regional instability.
